Volunteer: Dinner at the Shelter

House of Hope offers meals to our guests every evening at the shelter. Almost all of our food is donated by the community and we rely on our supporters to provide this essential need. Whether you're looking to make a difference in people's lives or have a group that wants to do some good - this is the opportunity for you.

House of Hope's kitchen is small (a single stove and a pantry), so most of our Food Volunteers prepare food beforehand and bring it with them. The shelter has plates, cups, napkins, silverware, and serving utensils. You'll just need to bring the food! The amount of people staying each night varies, but a good number would be 10-12.

If you have any questions about this volunteer opportunity, contact House of Hope at 434-549-1459.

Volunteer: Community-Based Mentor

Our Community-Based Mentoring program matches our volunteers, Bigs, with children in the community, Littles, in which the Big and Little consistently meet at least 1 hour per week to spend time together. Matches are made with considerations to such things as geographic location, interests, activities, and personalities.

Spending time together is fun for both Bigs and Littles. It doesn't require a special occasion or expensive activities, just a few hours every month sharing simple things you already enjoy with a young person. Things like...

Shooting hoops Playing a board game Sharing a pizza Taking a walk in the park or on the Riverwalk Trail Just hanging out and talking

A potential Big will need:

Completed application Written references Completed Background check
